Welcome to Then and Now Gaming. This site is dedicated to celebrating gaming through the ages. We will cover everything from Pong to the Xbox ONE X.
There are very few things in life that transcend generations. I feel gaming does just that. People of all ages enjoy playing games whether it be on the smartphone or the PC. We all have that in common.
Then and Now Gaming is not here to simply apply an arbitrary number to the latest game. It is here to maybe pick out some nuggets from the past you might have missed. It is here to promote gaming as a positive influence on our world.
I am a member of probably the first generation of people who have spent their entire lives playing video games. I have seen the industry grow into one that comes close to equaling that of the movie, television, and music industries. It wasn’t always this way.
Fortunately, my family was forward thinking enough to allow me to have video game sin my home. I can remember the days of senate hearings to determine the role of violence in video games and how it effected people. Mind you, this is the same time period you had movies like Friday the 13th or even Rambo that glorified violence in certainly a more realistic way than that of games on the Sega Genesis (Mortal Kombat).
Video games seem to have weathered that storm, and they have become as cinematic as many Hollywood blockbusters. When I think of games like Uncharted or Halo, it is amazing we are at this point, today. Understand, I remember the days of Adventure on the Atari 2600.
Video games have had a huge effect on my life. I enjoy playing a video game more than watching a movie. I have passed that love down to my children, and I hope that it continues for generations to come.
There is a very real possibility you will not agree with me on some of my commentary, and that’s okay. I only ask that you keep the comments civil. To many times, I read the comments on gaming sites, and there is a lack of respect for people’s opinions. I think that can have an adverse effect of the industry perception.
Then and Now Gaming is built with the idea that families who game together are closer. That is why I will not tolerate excessive use of expletives. I will not tolerate bullying in any way. The fact of the matter is most all games can find an audience.
Then and Now Gaming can be used to not just promote past and present games, but I want it to be an atmosphere that promotes my fellow gamers. There are literally a ton of wonderful sites and podcasts that I enjoy reading and listening to that may not be run by a media conglomerate. Feel free to reach out to me, and I will do what I can to help getting your name out there.
Above all else, Then and Now Gaming will be fun. That is why we play games in the first place, and it is certainly the reason why I have spent the better part of 35 years with my nose in front of a television with a controller in my hand.
